Our History
It was 1949 when Lucille Rapp started teaching dance in her basement and holding recitals in her backyard. As her business grew she realized she needed a bigger space and eventually moved to our current location in downtown Kirkwood. Lucille Rapp's daughter, Susie, was a dancer herself and enjoyed a successful performance-based career before taking over the family business. Our current director, Vicky Stricker, joined the teaching staff in 1983 and when Susie was ready to take a step back from running things, Vicky eagerly stepped in.
Our Beliefs
We believe that every dancer that steps into one of our classrooms deserves the best. Our teachers strive to provide a firm, but supportive and encouraging environment to help our dancers grow, improve, and achieve their goals. Regardless of age or previous experience, each and every dancer can be expected to be treated with kindness and respect.
We believe that our dancers are capable of great things, both in the studio and out. We offer a challenging curriculum in our classes and emphasize
each individual student's growth, whether that growth is happening through baby steps or by leaps and bounds. We're just as excited by a student's mastery of a new skill as we are by a great grade on a test, a new part in a play, or a goal scored at a soccer game.
We believe in letting kids be kids. Our song choices, costumes, and choreography all reflect this.
We believe in kindness. While we expect our dancers to be kind to their peers, we also help make sure they're being kind to themselves.
